I play my baritone in public at pretty much every performance. I play both melodies and harmonies. When I play pure melody pieces I use the upper two octaves. It is the only concertina I play consistently in concerts. (When I do concerts with a lo...

G before:: What is it that causes the problem as you see it? Dick."too much reversing of the bellows" RE: It certainly IS tricky with the concertina to imitate fiddle bowing reversals at rather quick tempo. The bow is so much lighter and easier to...

Mine is a metal ended aeola. I play it for dancing on a fairly regular basis; we don't use amplification. The volume is a bit less than my Wheatstone model 21 and it's a bit more mellow and subtle. Like others, I got it because it was the one I fo...

Mine must have an interesting history I don't know about in addition to the one I do know about. It's #2037 which shows up as a used instrument in the Wheatstone ledgers in 1860. The reeds are nickel silver. I bought it from an owner in Australia ...

I would suggest for beginners who wish to play in 6/8 jig time, to reverse at the beginning of every bar, and occasionally halway thorugh the bar,or reversing on first and fourth beats, and occasionally playing a whole bar,the same direction, this i...

too much reversing of the bellows,I find it [IMO]more satisfactory in ITM,to treat three single notes as a slur of three, but that is only a subjective personal opinion.

Dick:"yes, the only problem, is that lots of single bowed notes, cannot be satisfactorily[imo] played by reversing bellows on every note,so a little adaption has to take place.." RE: What is it that causes the problem as you see it?

Not going into details with the particular tune generally an excellent approach to the performance methods. It is so very surprising however that since the basic view "using the bellows as the bow of the fiddle" has been recommended in advanced co...

Simon:."For me a logical direction to take ergonomics of the concertina is to normalise the amount of finger reach up and down the keyboard, so stretching for a high note, or curling the fingers back for a low note are prevented". RE: Absolutely !...

I have been working on this and have some new ideas. in polkas,I am using a system, that is very close to paired fiddle bowing, groups of two quavers then reverse, see my top of maol on you tube. here is a useful exercise for the beginning of Drowsy...

Dick, I am not really objecting against what you said but just getting back to the essence, or "soul" of the music, there is something else I find a bit funny concerning performed speed and dancing. Of course the music itself can be performed in d...
